Genshin Impact Nintendo Switch Release Update
Right now, we don’t have a clue when Genshin Impact is landing on the Nintendo Switch. No solid signs it’s happening anytime soon. They dropped a trailer on January 14, 2020, saying it’s on its way to the Switch, but three years later, nada.
The latest scoop we got on the game hitting the Nintendo Switch was in May 2022. In a chat with Gonintendo, Xin Yang, the PR specialist from HoYoverse, spilled that more info about the Switch release is in the works. He mentioned, “The Switch version is still in development, and we will release more information as we progress further along.” Before this, some folks thought the game got the boot for the Nintendo Switch, and we’ll dive into why people thought that in just a second.
Genshin Impact Switch Delay Reasons Simplified
Figuring out why Genshin Impact is taking so long to come to the Switch isn’t easy, and there could be lots of reasons. One big reason might be the Switch’s old-fashioned hardware. Similar to games like The Witcher 3 and Hogwarts Legacy, where developers needed extra time to make the game work well on the Switch, the Genshin team might be doing the same. Especially since the game got much bigger with the latest 4.0 version.
Here’s a techy bit: Genshin Impact needs a minimum GTX 1030, which is way stronger than the Tegra X1 GPU in the Switch. Even though it’s not as demanding as some other big games, it still needs good graphics. The Switch only has 4GB of RAM, so developers might have to cut back on things like character details and fancy surroundings – the stuff that makes Genshin so cool in the first place.
How to Play Genshin Impact on Switch – The Deal
Unfortunately, playing Genshin Impact on the Switch isn’t possible right now, unless you explore some not-so-great options, which we won’t get into here. Will it ever come to the original Switch? Well, maybe on the Switch 2, but things could have changed since HoYoverse’s response last year, and it might not happen on the OG Nintendo Switch.
If you’re really eager to play Genshin on the go, the Switch isn’t your best bet, but the Steam Deck is. You might wonder, “But Genshin Impact isn’t supposed to work on Steam OS and Linux.” Turns out, that’s not the case.
About six months ago, players found a way to play Genshin Impact on Steam Deck and Linux by turning off the anti-cheat using a tool (we won’t mention it here). This tool was against HoYoverse’s rules and could get players banned. However, things changed since version 3.5. HoYoverse is now allowing players to enjoy the game on Steam Deck and Linux without breaking any rules. Just install the game through Epic Games Launcher (Heroic Games Launcher on Linux).
While it’s possible this is just a coincidence, there’s enough evidence to suggest otherwise. Steam Deck support for Genshin could be announced soon. As for the Switch, it looks like we might have to be patient for a bit longer.
