Snapchat is an unconventional social media application which takes the security and privacy of its users very seriously. It ensures that owing to security measures, a user would lose their account if certain measures aren’t put in place.
Certain security measures are unreasonable but still make sense for the security of the user. There are three layers of Snapchat security, that is recovery codes, two-factor authentication and verification codes. All of these protection methods work in tandem with each other to ensure the highest level of security for the user.
If the user activates the two-factor authentication and then you receive a recovery code, then it is absolutely necessary for the user to keep this code intact.
You can either write it down, save it in a document or memorise it. Once the user has activated the two-factor authentication, he will be asked to input the verification code every time he logins from an unknown device. This particular safeguard can get a bit annoying at times. The question that arises here is what if you get a new phone and then you have to enter your recovery code.
And the worst-case scenario would be that you lose your recovery codes as well. This would lead to you losing your account on a permanent basis. Below mentioned are the steps which you can take to ensure that this never happens.

How to Bypass the Snapchat Verification Code
If the user has set up a verification code with Snapchat via text, then the user will be required to have a working mobile network and a phone to receive the message. If the user has lost their phone or for some reason, they are not receiving the text message then they will be required to either fix their signal so that they can receive the verification code.
If you have lost your phone and if you are not able to receive the verification code and if you are not logged into your account as well, then you will, unfortunately, lose your account and there won’t be anything you can do about it then.
If you still have possession of your phone and somehow the texts aren’t receiving then you can still do something about it by fixing your mobile network coverage and you can eventually receive the text.

Generating a Recovery Code
A recovery code for Snapchat will help the user get into your Snapchat account if you have lost your phone or you are not able to receive the text and you somehow want to login to Snapchat.
You can generate a recovery code only when you have logged into your Snapchat account, however, you can use the codes while logging into the account.
- You need to open your Snapchat profile. You can find the button on the profile on the top right corner of your screen.
- Now you are required to open the settings sections, the icon of the section is a red gear that is located on the top right corner of the screen.
- Now you need to select login verification and when prompted you need to make a choice if you want the verification code via SMS or by a two-factor authentication app.
- Enter the code now.
- If you were successful in the attempt, you will have the opportunity to Generate the code.
- After you get the code you must save it securely.
Forgetting a Linked Device
If a user loses his device then it would still mean that his Snapchat is linked to that specific lost device.
This is particularly a serious problem since the two-factor authentication won’t be of any use in this scenario since you won’t have the access to the code’s destination on your lost device.
However, if you unlink the device, the user will not have to provide a verification code but it would cause a certain level of security lapse.
- Open the Snapchat application.
- You need to open your Snapchat profile. You can find the button of the profile on the top right corner of your screen.
- Now you are required to open the settings sections, the icon of the section is a red gear that is located on the top right corner of the screen.
- Select the Login Verification Option.
- Select Forget Devices.
- After this, you will be able to see the list of the devices, by selecting the device you want to unlink you can go through with the procedure. It is alright if you accidentally unlike a device. You can still establish a connection with it and link the device yet again through your two-factor authentication.
One important thing to note is that there is no way of retrieving an account if you have lost the recovery code. The Snapchat application does not give you the option to retrieve your account just through your email id.
If you have lost your account due to this particular issue the only thing you can do is make a new account and take steps which would ensure that this would not happen again.
Contact Snapchat Support
If you have forgotten your password, lost your device and if you are no longer able to generate the recovery code then the final option would be to contact the Snapchat support team to assist you in this particular issue.
