10 Things You Didn’t Know About iPhone X

iPhone X is “the future of smartphones.” You will need to brace yourself for the iPhone X release date that Apple announced at its September 12 launch event. It costs more than any prior iPhone and is shipping later than expected. Since from the launch event of iPhone X, there has been a lot of fuss about the new smartphone. Since the unveiling of the first iPhone, this iPhone X is a key step by Apple, as this is marked the 10th anniversary. However, many people are yet to understand the unique features of iPhone X that make the phone worth $1000. Here are the 10 things that you need to know about iPhone X.

1. Fast charging

iPhone X utilizes the Qi coil for wireless charging. Apple pushed wireless charging as a flagship feature in the reveal of its latest iPhone 8 and iPhone X  phones, but there are also battery improvements for customers who don’t mind using a cable. Since iPhone X has a fast-charging capacity, bringing a portable phone charger for cars is no longer necessary.

iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X supports fast charging. You can go from 0% to 50% charge in just 30 minutes. With a 50% quick charge in just 30 minutes, you are effectively gaining hours of additional battery life during the day, even if you only plug in for a short period. But you need an buy Apple’s USB-C charger and Lightning cable which is sold separately.

2. Bluetooth 5.0

One of the new specifications to appear on the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X is Bluetooth 5.0, an enhancement of the Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy protocol. Its primary benefit enables BLE devices (such as iBeacons, wearable sensors and other low-power fixtures of the “Internet of Things”) to work over greater distances or at faster speeds. iPhone X comes equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, and that means four times the range, eight times broadcast, and two times the speed achieved in Bluetooth 4.2.

3. Portrait lighting

Last year, Apple released Portrait Mode along with its iPhone 7 Plus, which uses the phone’s dual rear cameras to create artistic blurry backgrounds that looks like photos taken on a DSLR or mirrorless camera.

This year, Apple added Portrait Lighting mode, which lets you add professional lighting looks to your photos. Apple uses a robust algorithm that is able to calculate the way your facial features react to light. It is then used in creating lighting effects like a Stage light, Natural light, and Contour Light. From the camera app, swipe between modes until you land on the portrait. Frame your subject. Then, using the Portrait Lighting effects dial at the bottom of the screen, choose the look you want and take the picture.

4. A11 Bionic

Apple’s new A11 Bionic chip used in iPhone 8 and iPhone X packs in an array of processing cores and sophisticated controllers, each optimized for specific tasks.

Apple also states that the two performance-optimized general-purpose CPU cores of the A11 Bionic are up to 25 percent faster than those in last year’s A10 Fusion, the even larger gain comes from its efficiency cores, which have doubled in number to four and are now up to 70 percent faster. In Geekbench tests comparing iPhone 7 to iPhone 8 and iPhone X, the A11 Bionic scored 25 percent faster in single-core and 80 percent faster in multicore scores. A11 Bionic chip is even faster than Core i5 13-inch MacBook Pro.

5. Longer battery life

Apple showed off the next-generation iPhone, called iPhone X, which included a slew of updates and a big boost to its power and cameras – which, of course, would do some damage to your battery.

Still, you can enjoy longer battery life as the iPhone X offers you up to two hours longer durability when fully charged. That is likely thanks to being more power – efficient with its new A11 Bionic processor and other updates.

6. Better image signal processor

One of the features of the iPhone X is that it has the new image signal processor, which enhances faster autofocus. It also has a new pixel processor for better sharpness and texture.

The new image signal processor can detect elements around the scene (like motion, peoples, and lighting conditions) to easily optimize photos before taking them.

7. Wireless charging

One of the biggest new features on the new iPhone X is that it has wireless charging, which utilizes the Qi coil. No more carrying wires around as the iPhone X offers you wireless charging. iPhone X utilizes the Qi coil for wireless charging. This technology allows Apple’s smartphone to get an instant refill by being placed on a pad which then refills the device without it needing to go near a plug. The coil allows you to use virtually any pad you can get.

Apple doesn’t supply a charging pad in the box so, if you want to use this latest technology, you’ll need to buy one separately.

8. Neural engine

The neural engine is actually a pair of processing cores dedicated to handling “specific machine learning algorithms.” These algorithms are what power various advanced features in the iPhone, including Face ID, Animoji, and augmented reality apps. According to Apple’s press materials, the neural engine performs “up to 600 billion operations per second” to help speed AI tasks. The neural engine makes new features like Face ID and Animoji efficient and fast.

9. NFC with reader mode

Only iPhone 7, iPhone 8 & iPhone X supports reading NFC tags. NFC with reader mode is a framework that was added to aid in the detection of Near Field Communication tags. NFC tags have a very small amount of memory, that when encoded carry a bit of data that can be read by an NFC enabled device, such as a phone or fixed NFC reader.

10. True tone Quad-LED flash and Slow Sync

With slow sync also comes slow shutter speed, and this helps when taking photos in low light. Slow Sync flash combines a slow shutter speed with a short strobe pulse. It’s useful in low light when you want a brighter foreground subject with a properly exposed background, and the Quad-LED True Tone flash delivers illumination that’s up to two times more uniform, helping to reduce hot spots.
